Discarded campaign stickers as seen in friends’ garage in Waco, TX

That’s right. You’re not from Texas.

Or maybe you are. Regardless, I’ve got a bullseye target for you.

But before I start, you’ll notice this is about a specific action and represents my perspective. If you disagree, I welcome an open discussion.

So, the bullseye target: Let’s flip the TX house to Democrat-controlled. Let me explain why this is critical and absolutely doable — with you and your network’s help.

As Justin Nelson, co-chair of the committee to flip the TX House blue & the possible future Attorney General of TX, shared last week with me in an email exchange, “Texas is critical for keeping control of the US House over the next decade due to the outsized influence it has on redistricting. If Republicans gerrymander Texas, it makes it much more difficult to obtain a majority in Congress — not just in 2022 but for the next decade. It could be a swing of up to 16 seats.Read that again, supporting TXHDCC candidates in 2020 is not just about flipping the TX House but also critical to keeping control of the US House.

Democracy works with appropriate checks and balances (and when morally bankrupt people are not in positions of leadership). Right now, in Texas, Republicans control the House, the Senate and the executive branch. The majority of the current government does not represent the great diversity of thought, gender and race of Texas.

This is easy. Whether you live in Texas or not:

Help fund the TXHDCC, the committee that is aligned with multiple state and national organizations to funnel funds to scrutinized and identified winners across TX districts. Any amount of $ is tremendous. Sign up to learn about other ways to get involved (probably will be some postcard-writing efforts, etc., down the road). Spread this word to a friend the next time you hear them say, “What can I do?”

I’ve joined this group for a couple of meetings and am in awe of their fire power, data analysis and focus in turning the TX House blue. Something that struck me in the first meeting was a mention that Texas has always been a lost cause for Democrats and therefore an ATM for other swing states — as far as donor $ go. But not this time. Anyone and everyone can play their part to help support TX — and broader balance — this time. We all win if we have equal representation under the law.

“That’s right, you’re not from Texas, but Texas wants you anyway.”

— Lyle Lovett

PS — DM me if you want to get involved or discuss further. I’m happy to share their prospectus & data over email. Thanks to a couple of friends who recently joined me on TX HDCC calls. Let’s do this.
